Lateral tilt – with lateral step

Duration: 1:04mins | Video 3 of 6 in the ViPR exercises series

Benefits

This exercise is designed to load the frontal plane and to elicit more co-ordination

Timing and sequencing of the body will improve using this exercise

Prerequisites

The individual must possess adequate movements in the hips (especially in the frontal plane) in order to decelerate properly

Ensure that the client does not have excessive kyphosis in the thoracic spine (if so, initiate a corrective strategy to deal with pelvic and thoracic curve imbalance)

Preparation

Use the grip shown

Begin with the ViPR on end in the centre

Maintain an athletic stance throughout this exercise

Movement

Begin by shuffling to one side (along the frontal plane)

Take the desired number of steps to one side as the ViPR begins to tilt

Plant the outside leg, decelerate the tilt with the body and accelerate to the opposite side

Repeat side-to-side for the desired reps/time

Regression

Limit range of motion

Progression

Cross body grip
